Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security. We work with civil society, governments and international organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research, and policy development, and through supporting the actions of others.
The Deputy Head of East Africa supports the Head of the region in overseeing the delivery of Saferworld country programmes in East Africa and providing strategic leadership with a particular focus on Finance, Operations, Security and HR.
In rapidly evolving country programmes, the post-holder will be responsible for the oversight and support of country programme operations, including compliance, opening of new offices, adaptation, the operationalisation of new projects and bridging support to country offices, working closely with the Director of HR/Operations and Country Directors/Managers. A particular focus will be the oversight of the financial performance of the country programmes and cost recovery, working closely with Country Directors/Managers, the Director of Finance and the HEA.
As part of the regional management structure, the post holder is expected to contribute actively to the global organisational strategy, priorities and policies, and to also contribute to the development of broader regional interests.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in business administration as well as an accounting qualification (CCAB/ACCA or similar). S/he will also have significant senior management experience in INGO operations. Experience of budget development and financial performance management as well as in the development of global operational strategies.is key.
