Country: Bangladesh
Closing date: 09 Oct 2018
Saferworld is an independent international organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote co-operative approaches to security. Established in 1989, we work with civil society, international organisations and governments to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy development and through supporting the actions of others.
Saferworld has been working in Bangladesh since 2006. In partnership with local organisations Saferworld engaged with communities to participatory research and analyse the causes of insecurity, collectively design plans to address them and develop strategies to engage with stakeholders to achieve change. More recently we have been supporting businesses to become advocates for peace, and to put forward solutions to national and state governments to resolve conflicts and enable them to be more aware of their impact on factors that could drive conflict. We also have been strengthening our work on gender, peace and security, supporting communities to address the gender impact of conflict and insecurity, and working to address gender norms that perpetuate conflict –with a particular focus in Cox Bazaar and the crisis response to the Rohingya crisis.
We are looking for a leader who will provide direction to Saferworld’s work in Bangladesh, in line with our organisational strategy, values and principles. To be successful in this role you will be comfortable taking on large and complex programmes, managing relationships and securing resources from donors, who will be inspired by your vision for the contribution Saferworld and its partners can make to supporting Bangladesh. You will have a record of building, leading and motivating teams while able to deal with the detail of budgets, reporting and results frameworks when necessary. With a track record of working in Bangladesh at a senior leadership level you will understand the nuances of the country and be able to explain them to your colleagues across Saferworld while applying them to working in multiple parts of the country. Above all, you will be comfortable being the public face of Saferworld in the country and be someone your peers in civil society look towards for support in addressing the challenges of building long term and sustainable peace in the country.
