Organization: Saferworld
Country: Bangladesh
Closing date: 11 Nov 2018

Saferworld is an independent non-governmental organisation that works to prevent and reduce violent conflict and promote cooperative approaches to security. We work with civil society, governments and national and international organisations to encourage and support effective policies and practices through advocacy, research and policy development, and through supporting the actions of others.

The main objective of this role is to provide overall leadership for the consortium’s programme in Cox’s Bazaar, including management, personnel and financial oversight. Crucially this will ensure that the consortium of Saferworld and BRAC are working coherently, collaboratively and as one in the delivery of the programme. To do that successfully this postholder will need to establish and maintain working relationships, including navigating the various pressures that the project will be operating under.

The Team Leader will work with staff and partners in Dhaka as well as on the delivery of the project in Cox’s Bazaar. It is anticipated that the post holder will spend the majority of the first 6 months in Cox’s Bazaar.

The Team Leader will also represent the consortium to the donor and lead our reporting, analysis and adaptations as required.

To succeed in this role you will need to command the confidence of your colleagues working in two very different but complementary institutions. You will need to be able to build and maintain strong and trusting relationships with a wide and diverse range of actors operating in and around the humanitarian response in Cox’s Bazaar. On any one day you could be supporting staff working inside the refugee camps, liaising with humanitarian actors and coordination mechanisms to ensure the complementarity of this project to their work, reviewing a piece of analysis from a colleague on gender sensitivity and gender-based violence (GBV) or meeting international donors to brief them on progress.

You will have experience working and coordinating with humanitarian organisations and coordination mechanisms, particularly around protection and gender/GBV issues.

You will therefore be a resilient individual, comfortable balancing multiple and demanding priorities and with navigating what will be a complex set of challenges with a constant level of uncertainty. Moreover, you should be able to understand the different objectives, ways of working and challenges from a diverse set of colleagues and organisations, and lead them into working together towards a common goal.

This project will combine perspectives from two different fields: peacebuilding and social cohesion, plus humanitarian response. You will be comfortable with the idea of breaking new ground and trying new ways of working which will be challenging for your team, and potentially your partners and other humanitarian organisations and mechanisms.

Above all you will be a confident leader, reflective and committed.
