Yemeni civil society organisations are active and engaged while facing great challenges and capacity losses as a result of the conflict. Saferworld is looking for a CSO Engagement Programme Adviser to further develop and oversee the implementation of the country wide strategy of engagement with (CSOs). The main responsibilities of the job holder are described below.
The Adviser will develop key areas of strategic engagement, including mapping and assessing the civil society landscape in Yemen, developing partnerships and supporting organisational and technical capacity building. Activities are expected to be mainly in the MENA region, with occasional international travel as necessary. The person we are looking for will have the following key areas of expertise:
· An understanding of conflict and governance issues in Yemen, including conflict dynamics and actors, key political, social and economic issues, peacebuilding/conflict prevention measures, and the role of regional and international actors.
· Knowledge and experience of working in partnership with national NGOs and civil society organisations and programmes aimed at strengthening the organisational and institutional capacity of civil society organisations
· Fluent in Arabic and English with excellent relationship building and networking skills, strategic and analytical with the ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
