Saferworld’s Strategy 2014-2017 for Somalia/land has two core components.
Supporting the development of a democratic culture including the oversight of free and fair elections
Supporting the provision of community-based security and justice and related policy reform.
Saferworld has recently been awarded funding for a 5-year programme by the Government of the Netherlands to support the delivery of community security programming in Somalia. The RSCS programme has three implementation sites—Mogadishu, Baidoa and Kismayo.
This position is an exciting opportunity to lead and deliver on a large scale, strategic and high impact transformational programme. he successful candidate will have experience of leading and delivering large scale, strategic, complex and high impact transformational programmes and of developing and cultivating partnerships with local organisations.
The programme has three principal strands:
- To support, in partnership with local organisations, the creation of Community Action Forums (CAFs) that will develop conflict assessments of their local contexts.
- Saferworld will directly establish state-level Police Advisory Committees (PACs) who will undertake regular monitoring visits of police stations in order to assess and advocate for improvements to be made.
- To ensure that learning from both the PACs and CAFs is utilised to advocate for more accountable and inclusive institutions
